The Dutch Laverda Museum V6

Still Busy Making Gearbox Parts....

While many parts are now finished for the gearbox, lots of parts still have to be made. The V6 gearbox needs many more parts then a typical streetbike-gearbox.

There are 3 shafts, the two mainshafts carry all kind of special hardened and splined bearing rings where gears are running. They all have to be ground, however all the gearbox gears are hardened, ground and finished now. Also a lot of gears for the drivetrain to the pumps at the front and the interspace between crankcase and gearbox are now complete. Here we find gears to the generator and from the starterengine with all its associated freewheel and reduction gears.

The shiftingdrum has now be drawn up into CAD files, but it surely will take another couple of days to get a good working program. The drum of the 1991 V6 is in good order and can be used but eventually another drum has to be made for the prototype V6. With this example in hand visualising and therefore making it is a lot easier. But I think it will be one of the most difficult parts to make and the next months will be used for this.

During this time an original 1977 prototype tank, which cannot be used anymore, was adjusted. By doing some paperwork on the inside I hope to make clear my intentions and to visualise better for the Hungarian petroltank maker. Just for that reason the 2nd V6 was temporarily built up again.

It remains a very fascinating project!!!!!!

V6 Rebuild

A wire EDM machine to cut the square holes for the dogs.

V6 Rebuild

Detail of the EDM process. A fine wire is charged with electricity and 'spark erodes' it's way through the material. In this way any shape hole can be cut, in this case the square-edged slots for the gear dogs to engage.
